C H A R A C T E R;
NAME: Bismuth
CANON: Steven Universe
POINT IN CANON: S5E25, 'Legs From Here To Homeworld'
AGE: fuck off
APPEARANCE: Her current appearance and some bonus notes! Bismuth is one of the tallest Gems - taller than Garnet (minus the hair), shorter than Rose Quartz, and almost exactly twice Steven's height; this may place her close to, if not over eight and a half feet. Height in Steven Universe is so consistent guys
CANON HISTORY: Another description is available here!

Bismuth is one of the original Crystal Gems, part fo the initial group formed during the early days of the war against Homeworld and Pink Diamond. Originally an architect and construction worker, creating spires and temples for Gem elites (implying Bismuths as a gem class are extremely low-tier), Rose Quartz opened her eyes to the idea of freedom, and the ability to choose to do whatever she wanted; this made Bismuth decide to make weapons, and supplied them to her the entire rebellion. This is actually how Rose Quartz received her iconic pink sword; one of Bismuth's 'finest' creations, in her own words, able to easily cut through the physical form of a Gem, but not the gem itself.

It's not known exactly how long Bismuth was building weapons for the Rebellion for; but at some point, she designed something new, to show to Rose Quartz, that Bismuth was convinced would win them the war. She called it the Breaking Point: a pile bunker-style weapon, specifically designed to destroy gems, even ones as powerful as Diamonds. Rose rejected the weapon, and Bismuth took it as a personal affront, and verbally lashed out, but it was Rose who struck first. She poofed Bismuth, bubbled her - kept in stasis - and hidden away from the other Crystal Gems, who never knew of her end.

This stasis lasted well over 5,300 years.

Until Steven, who was in Lion's portal dimension at the time, happened to pop her bubble, and release her once more. For Bismuth, zero time had passed between being poofed and waking up, so was quite confused at Pearl and Garnet's tear-filled reactions to her presence; they were the ones to tell her how much time has passed, how the Rebellion was crushed and the war against Homeworld finished with one cruel final blow from the Diamonds.

After this, Bismuth takes the others to her personal forge, where she originally worked, and supplies the Crystal Gems with upgrades for their armour - including Amethyst, who she has only met today. And with their upgrades in hand, the Crystal Gems spar on the beach - it gets very intense, and when invited to join in, Steven instead opts to show Bismuth some human bonding activities, such as making pizza and watching 'entertainment'.

That night Steven reveals he has Rose's sword, and Bismuth offers him a different one, that she considers better than her 'finest work' - The Breaking Point. Steven refuses, and Bismuth flies into a rage, convinced that Steven is really Rose, and attacks him: Steven is forced to respond, and impales her with Rose's sword, and promises to tell the other Gems what really happened between Bismuth and Rose, something that convinced Bismuth that Steven is his own person before she poofs.

We don't see Bismuth again for two seasons (though she had a very real impact on Steven in subsequent episodes), until Steven intentionally releases her so he can invite her to Ruby and Sapphire's wedding. They get briefly sidetracked, however, by Bismuth realising she is in a room surrounded by other bubbled gems, and comes to the conclusion that Rose bubbled everyone that disagreed with her.

She pops the bubble of a popular gem from the Rebellion, but - unaware that corruption is a thing - is not prepared for her former friend to transform into a mindless monster and attack her. Steven protects her from being attacked while she's in shock, and Bismuth destroys the monster easily so Steven can bubble its gem once more. He then sits her down so he can explain everything: that Rose Quartz is actually Pink Diamond, faked her own shattering, and the entire mess behind that.

Bismuth's response is to stick her head into the pit of lava nearby and scream. She takes it surprisingly well, though, and understands why Rose opposed the Breaking Point and why it wouldn't have worked.

Steven immediately wants to show her to the other Gems to prove she's back, but Bismuth balks at the idea and hides in her forge, making swords to vent her stress: when Steven asks her about it, she is convinced that the others won't want her back - why else would they have not popped her bubble already and let her out? Steven counters readily that their fight was between the two of them, and that when they see Steven with Bismuth, they'll know things are fine. This turns out to be the truth, as Bismuth gets dogpiled by Ruby and Sapphire when they see her; who also cry when Bismuth presents them with her wedding gift - two rings.

To the wedding, Bismuth wears a full suit of armour (complete with retractable shoulder spikes), and almost missed her cue as ring-bearer because she was crying so hard. Unfortunately, the reception gets gatecrashed by Blue and Yellow Diamond; after Steven explains and checks in on the Cluster, which fights off Yellow Diamond's ship, Bismuth and the other Gems launch all-out attacks on Blue Diamond herself (including Bismuth throwing Peridot at Blue's face as a distraction). The fighting gets called off when the two Diamonds realise Steven is Pink.

With two Diamond ships destroyed, Steven finds the one belonging to Pink Diamond; but when invited, Bismuth volunteers to stay behind and help take care of the poofed Peridot and Lapis Lazuli.

This is where she's taken from.

CANON PERSONALITY:
Bismuth is everything she appears to be at first glance; big, loud, and physically affectionate. She's happy and eager to tease her friends mercilessly, and is cordial and open to any new people she might be introduced to. She wears her heart on her sleeve, and seems to be really bad at faking or hiding her emotions; the mere sight of her friends tearing up is enough to get her started, and she cries openly when her friends get married.

She's open to trying new ideas and listening to other people's opinions; but at the same time she can be unrelenting in her stubbornness, and a sure-fire way for her to lose her temper is to try and disagree with her when she's in a particularly stubborn mood.

She is extremely hot-tempered, always ready to throw down; this is a problem, as she also doesn't know how to back down, and when she does lose her temper, things tend to escalate radically. She is also very vindictive, and shown to be unafraid of pretty much any sort of physical presence or barrier - when told the remaining Crystal Gems are outnumbered, she laughs and recalls how she and Garnet faced down three battalions of Quartz soldiers (extremely competent warriors literally designed for battle, possibly in excess of 2000 soldiers), with no other assistance, and won.

Being shattered is not something she has any concerns for, about herself. Rather, she expresses deep fear at being forgotten or cast aside. This is entirely inspired by Rose Quartz's treatment of her, in locking her in a bubble and not telling Bismuth's friends the truth.

Bismuth is also one of the most accepting Gems we've seen to date in regards to someone taking a new form, or not being who they want to or believe they could be. When Steven introduces himself as having Rose Quartz's gem, but not being the real her, she says it's 'really something else', and she constantly expresses with open sincerity to him how he truly is his own unique person. She marvels at his ability to be himself, and speaks the same way about her own uniqueness now, about how she's not just another Bismuth.

POINT OF DEPARTURE: NA
VETERAN?: Yes! Arrived at some point after Red Dirt, and dungeoned towards the end of Moebius.
ABILITIES:
As a Gem, Bismuth has a number of key abilities and features.

- Her true body is, in fact, her gem. Her physical form is actually a "hologram with mass", and while she can be injured, she can't be killed unless her gem is destroyed.
- Relatedly, when a Gem's physical form is mortally wounded, they 'poof' - their form explodes into smoke, and they retreat into their gem in order to conserve energy and create a new, undamaged form. This process can take anywhere between a couple of weeks or a few seconds, though generally speaking more time spent in their gem makes for a more stable reformation.
- All Gems can temporarily adjust their physical forms through shapeshifting. This can be as minor as a height change, or a single limb, or as much as completely changing into a different person, or an inanimate object. Bismuth is not seen performing a full body transformation, though she is fully capable, but she frequently turns her arms into hammers or a Roman scissor, can make them apparently up to twice as large as her own body, and can stretch her limbs to unknown lengths.
- Gems are infinitely more physically capable than humans. Bismuth is strong enough to smash rocks and hammer swords with her bare hands, can survive quite comfortably in lava (and in fact, greatly enjoys it, seemingly akin to a spa), can jump more than 50 feet high and run at superhuman speeds.
- Gems don't need to eat, sleep or breathe. They have been shown to eat and sleep, but it's more of a comfort thing than a necessity.
- Gems adjust automatically to the gravity of whatever planet they're on. Rarely relevant, but neat.
- They can summon weapons from their Gem: this is not ubiquitous, however, as some Gems are shown to use elementalism, or no weapons, and as Bismuth was originally a construction worker it's likely she may not have one. For combat, she's thus far always shown to shapeshift.
- Gems can capture items in bubbles, which put the item in stasis until the bubble is popped again. We don't know what a Bismuth-made bubble looks like yet, but she is fully capable. These bubbles also persist beyond the death or disappearance of the Gem who created them, as proven by Rose Quartz.

Beyond all of this, Bismuth is also a terrifying combatant, willing and able to take measures beyond ruthless in order to finish a fight. She came very recently from a time of war, and she can fall back into that mindset very easily.

She is also an expert blacksmith, capable of creating high quality (medieval-based) weaponry in very short periods of time, as well as upgrades for them.

ANYTHING ELSE WE SHOULD KNOW? Don't think so!

M A R K S;
JUSTIFICATION:
Chariot. My personal favourite; everything Bismuth has been shown to do in the past revolved around the concepts of conquest and honour, winning the fight and moving on to the next, revelling in her victories and bragging about them to her friends. Creating the ultimate weapon, one that could destroy their enemies the same way their enemies have been destroying them, and refusing to bend when the weapon is questioned, to the point that it was simpler to kill her than negotiate.

Emperor. A very similar vein to Chariot's justification, with extra notes of refusing to yield under pressure and a more masculine character design than many of the other Gems so far, and a strong personal focus on the leaders around her, noting them and how their inferiors react to them.

Sun. Bismuth is a habitual pep talker, and does her best to inspire her friends to remember their victories, revel in their good times and remember their fallen in fondness. She doesn't hold up Sun's more naive aspects, however: as a war veteran, she is very much jaded and tired, no longer innocent, and had been shown to have deep moments of exhaustion and self-doubt; and part of her sense of humour revolves around poking people about things she knows they can be sensitive about - in good faith, certainly, but not non-critical.

Tower. I know it's out but come on
